Donald R. Plate, 79, of 116 Kay Ave., Sheboygan Falls, died at his home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 8, 2007. He was born September 6, 1927 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Clarence and Della (Seegert) Plate. Donald attended Milwaukee North High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany in 1945 and was part of the Military Police. On June 11, 1949, Donald married Betty Mae Krueger in Sheboygan Falls. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1999. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2000. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls where he served on the church council. Donald worked at Bemis Manufacturing Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he worked at the Bemis Home and Garden Store. He was also a member of the Bemis 25 year club, and was one of the organizers of the (BWA) Bemis Workers Association and an officer of the Bemis Credit Union. He was a member of the Sheboygan Falls Fire Dept. for 27 years and retired as Captain. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post #149. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping and walking the trails. Survivors include a son, Gary (Jane) Plate of Sheboygan Falls; two daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Meerdink of Sheboygan Falls, Jacqueline (Peter) Hansen of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, Eric (Lori) Plate, Lisa Plate, Holly (Rick) Moser, Katie (fiancé Dylan Ottman) Meerdink, Samantha Hansen and Betsy Hansen; two great grandchildren, Addison and Owen Plate; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Marvin) Scheibl, Carol (William) Guse, Warren (Janet) Kuester, Audrey Scroggins, Vernon Krueger, and Ann Krueger. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, sister and brother-in-law, Arvin and Marion Grunewald; brothers-in-law, Laurin Krueger and Bill Scroggins; sister-in-law, Betty Jane Krueger. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Gudmundson, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Monday, March 12, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund will be established in his name.
