Donald G. Kempers, 82, of Oostburg, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at St. Nicholas Hospital. Donald was born March 26, 1929 in the Town of Holland to Willis and Clara (Wensink) Kempers. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. On February 21, 1970 he married Emaline "Emmy" Musil in Cedar Grove. Emmy passed away January 14, 2010. Donald owned and operated Great Lakes Plastics in Cedar Grove for over 20 years, retiring in 1997. Donald was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg. Donald loved spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and walking around town. He loved sweets, especially double cream filled coffee cake from the Oostburg Bakery. Donald also loved food, one of his favorites was barbecued ribs. He enjoyed the summer time and warm weather. One of his hobbies included building and flying model airplanes. He loved Clint Eastwood movies and westerns. In his younger years he enjoyed golfing and home improvement projects. Donald is survived by four daughters, Dee Kempers Thieme of Sheboygan Falls, Dori (David) Eckhardt of Sheboygan, Kristine (Scott) Schmitt of Cross Plains, Holly Kempers of Oostburg; six grandchildren, Tara Thieme, Brenna and Jordon Eckhardt, Noah, William, and Weston Schmitt; other relatives and friends. Donald is preceded in death by his parents; wife Emmy; one brother Willard "Bud" Wensink. Memorial services for Donald will be at 10:30 am on Monday, April 11, 2011 at First Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Inurnment will be in Gibbsville Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 286. A gathering for family and friends will be from 1-3 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Donald's name for the American Cancer Society and Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund.
