Donald Breunig

Donald E. Breunig, 88, of Sheboygan Falls passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the family farm surrounded by his family. Donald was born on December 9, 1928 in Sheboygan, the son of Henry and Josephine (Paulus) Breunig. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Francis Minor Seminary High School in Milwaukee. He married Lauretta Fermanich on May 24, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manawa. Following their marriage they settled on their farm in the Town of Wilson where they spent their lives farming and raising their family. Lauretta preceded him in death on July 18, 2009 following 57 years of marriage. Donald was a faithful member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls, and a former parishioner at St. George Catholic Church in the Town of Wilson. He served his church as a lector and parish council member. Donald served as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for 60 years. He was also a member of the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau, AMPI, Sheboygan County Fair Supt, 4-H leader, and as chairman of the Town of Wilson Planning Commission. He also served many years on the Board of Directors at Oostburg State Bank. Donald attended the Gathering Place in Sheboygan Falls for the past four years. He enjoyed farming, reading, music, sports, card playing, singing, playing the accordion, travel and photography. Donald cherished time that he could spend with his children and grandchildren. Don is survived by four daughters, Mary Jo (John) Widder of Kohler, Jean (Peter) Pittner of Sheboygan, Karen (Paul) McCabe of Random Lake and Donna (Gregory) Brooks of Plover; four sons, Kenneth (Theresa) Breunig, James (Shirl) Breunig, both of Sheboygan Falls, Richard (Cynthia) Breunig of Manitowoc and Tom (Mary) Breunig of Middleton; 21 grandchildren, Fr. Matthew Widder, Paul (Lynn) Widder, Sarah Widder, Teresa (Andrew) Hoffman, Christa (Drew) Pittner-Smith, and Maria Pittner, Joseph (Heather) McCabe, Katie McCabe, Kristin McCabe, Dustin Brooks, Derek Brooks, Jeffrey (fiancé Haemin Kim) Breunig, Laura (Brendon) Leary, Eric (Erica) Breunig, and Rachel (Bryan) Reilly, Melissa (Mark) Marshall, Aaron (Nicole) Breunig, Amanda Breunig, Alexis Breunig, Kyle Breunig and Mikaela Breunig; seven great grandchildren, Luke Hoffman, Nolan, Lilah and Stella McCabe, Gavin and Ethan Breunig, and Elijah Breunig; four sisters-in-law, Nancy Breunig of Gibbsville, Karen Breunig of Waterford, Judy Breunig of Evansville, IN, and Theresa Fermanich of Rockford, IL; four brothers-in-law, Raymond (Wanda) Fermanich, John (Virginia) Fermanich, Paul (Beverly) Fermanich, all of Rockford, IL and Ronald (Pat) Olson of Florida. Donald is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lauretta; and three brothers, Joseph, Victor and John Breunig. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Donald's life will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 6 pm at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls with the Revs. Matthew Widder and Bob Lotz officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, at the church, from 3 pm until the time of the Mass at 6 pm. Burial will take place at St. George Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Wilson on Saturday at 9 am. A memorial fund is being established in Donald's memory for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and The Gathering Place.
