Don E. Van De Wege

Don E. Van De Wege passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Columbia St. Mary’s in Mequon with his family by his side. He was 69 years old.

Don was born October 12, 1953 in Sheboygan, the son of Christian and Helen (Lubbers) Van De Wege. He grew up in Oostburg graduating from Oostburg High School in 1972.

On August 31, 1973, Don was united in marriage with Deborah Ver Velde at Hingham Reformed Church. The two shared over 30 years together and raised three children. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2005. On February 14, 2016, he was united in marriage with Leandra Trimberger at Grace Bible Fellowship.

For 40+ years, he was an over the road semi driver, and ran his own farm.

Don was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship. Prior, he proudly hosted Church In The Shed with Pastor TenDolle. He loved farming, cutting wood and trapshooting.

Don is survived by his wife Lee and his children: Amy (Shawn) Spellich of Reedsville, Jonathan (Holli) Van De Wege of Woodinville, WA and Matthew (Kim) Van De Wege of Hingham; grandchildren: Kenneth (Chris), Benjamin (Brooke) and Nicholas (Justice) Spellich, Ethan, Cadan and Grace Van De Wege and Elise, Case, Christian, Adalynn, Crew and Ivy Van De Wege; great-grandchildren: Colton, Chloe and Everleigh Spellich; brother Mark Van De Wege; niece Kristi (Bob) Heimerl; father- and mother-in-law: Lyle and Ann Ver Velde. He is further survived by Lee’s family, children Christopher (Stacy) Loker of Milwaukee and Philip (Heather) Loker of West Bend; grandchildren Frances and Simon Loker; many beloved relatives from the Van De Wege, Ver Velde and Trimberger families; other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Deborah, his sister Loretta “Lolly” Wade, and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Ave. in Oostburg. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service at www.wenigfh.com on Don’s obituary page. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00AM – 1:00PM.

He will be laid to rest beside Deborah at Hingham Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grace Bible Fellowship or the MACC Fund.
