David L. Gartman

David L. Gartman, 72, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. 

David was born on July 19, 1952, to Lloyd and Lorraine (Fritsch) Gartman in Sheboygan. He graduated from South High School in 1970. 

On June 17, 1977, David was united in marriage to Clare Mersberger.

Immediately following high school, he began operating the family farm for the rest of his life. He loved working alongside his sons on the farm. He farmed a diversity of dairy, beef and crops. David served on the Town of Wilson board for 10 years, serving as chairman for 6 of those years. He served as the director of the Sheboygan Falls Co-op for 7 years and then Kettle Lakes Co-op for 17 years. Later years, he served as President of the Board. He was a member of the Holstein Association and Dairy Farmers of America. More than anything, David’s family was most important to him and always came first.

David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Clare Gartman of Sheboygan; three sons, Anthony (Michelle) Gartman of Sheboygan, Ryan (Kim) Gartman of Random Lake, and Kevin Gartman of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Justin Gartman, Monica Gartman, Sorrell Anderson, and Izaiah Anderson. He is further survived by aunts and uncles, Arlyn Fritsch, LeRoy (Sandy) Fritsch, Jane Fritsch, many other relatives and friends. 

David was preceded in death by his parents; uncles, Harvey, Erwin (Gloria), Jerome Fritsch, Louis, Leonard (Edith), Reuben Gartman.

A funeral service to celebrate David's life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Wilson on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2:00pm, with Rev. Shane Cota officiating. A burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at church from 11:00am until the time of service.

Memorials are appreciated in David’s name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church.

David’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the at home hospice staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their compassionate care, especially Leah and Tracy.
