Danne Lee Mellenthin

Danne Lee Mellenthin, of Oostburg, passed away Monday morning, July 8, 2024 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth after a long battle with dementia. He was 78 years old.

 Danne was born January 2, 1946 in Colby, WI, the son of Gordon and Marion (Frome) Mellenthin. He graduated from Concordia High School in Milwaukee and went on to study at Concordia College in Milwaukee and later St. Paul where he earned a BS in Education.

 Danne was united in marriage with Berna Jo Steines in Cedar Rapids, IA on December 30, 1972. The couple shared 51 years together.

 Danne found his calling and passion in careers that allowed him to lead and help others. Beginning his career as a junior high math and science teacher in Cedar Rapids, IA. Danne later worked as a Director of Christian Education in Albuquerque, NM. But eventually, he retired as an RN at the Marshfield Hospital where he worked across many departments for over 26 years. In addition to this, he also served as a volunteer EMT throughout his working years.

Danne served his country in the US Army Reserves during Desert Storm.

 A self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, and master of none”, Danne had many talents, from stain glass to woodworking. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and camping, especially with his family.

Above all, Danne's relationship with his Lord was the foundation of his life.

Danne served God well and taught his children to do the same. When there was a need, he would drop everything to help anyone out. 

He would want everyone to know that the only way to Heaven is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Danne is in heaven today because he deeply believed this.

 Danne is survived by his wife Berna Jo and their children: Jereme (Emily) Mellenthin of Cleveland, OH, Sabrina (Micah) Weidner of Oostburg, WI, Lindsay (Isaac) Cortes of Monterrey, MX, Michael (Codi) Mellenthin of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Arabella, Phineas, Elijah, Lydia, Esther, Malachi, Mateo, Perla, Natalia, Nikolai, Patrick and Sophia; as well as other relatives and friends.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Marion Mellenthin, as well as his brother Dale Mellenthin and sister Dawn Mellenthin.

 A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, WI. The family will receive visitors at the church on Sunday from 12:00 noon – 2:00PM.

 He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls, WI.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be given to The Gathering Place.

 The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Rocky Knoll Health Care Center for their compassionate and loving care of Danne over the last 4 years.
