Clifton Sager

Clifton "Cliff" G. Sager, 94, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday evening, January 12, 2012, at Cedar Grove Gardens. Cliff was born March 29, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Helen (Jiran) Sager. As a youth he moved to Milwaukee where he graduated from Milwaukee Bay View High School in 1935 and later graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha in 1940. On August 21, 1940, Cliff married Shirley Stokdyk of Cedar Grove, in Yuma, Arizona. Cliff moved to Burbank, California and worked for Lockheed Aircraft during the war where the P38 were made to break the sound barrier. He then moved to Milwaukee after the war and he created training films for Delta Manufacturing for their dealership network. Cliff later worked for Rockwell Manufacturing creating films for all their woodworking machinery. He then moved to Mequon with his wife and family which during that time he specialized in making industrial films. Cliff was a pioneer in making educational films on the State of Wisconsin for the Milwaukee Journal for educational distribution. He later relocated to Chicago, where he made films documenting the construction of the Hancock building in Chicago and spent 10 years there creating other industrial films. Cliff and his family moved back to Mequon where he created brochures for business and industry and was semi-retired at that time. He then moved the family to the Bahamas where he and his wife worked as free-lance photographers for the Early Networks. Cliff then relocated with the family to Cedar Grove where for 12 years the family ran The Villager weekly newspaper, which featured local history and activities. Cliff later moved to Oostburg where he retired, but never stopped creating local brochures. Cliff is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley; one daughter, Diane (Finn) Nielsen of Alamagorde, NM; four grandchildren, Frederick, Cheryl, Pamela, Stephanie; two great-grandchildren, Claire and Arabella; one son-in-law, Fred Hoffman; other relatives and friends. Cliff was preceded in death by his: parents; two daughters, Suzanne Hoffman and Barbara Jean Sager; one grandson, Thomas Hoffman. Private family services for Cliff will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Cliff's name in c/o Wenig Funeral Home, P.O. Box 141, Sheboygan Falls, WI 53085.
