Chester DeBlaey

Chester J. DeBlaey, 86, of 9 Willowood Drive, Sheboygan, died on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2009 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. Chester was born on June 24, 1923 in the Town of Holland, the son of the late Elmer and Laureen (Gabrielse) DeBlaey. He attended Oostburg High School and served in the US Army during World War II. On July 23, 1943 he married the former Tannie Dekker in Sheboygan. Chester owned DeBlaey Excavating and Asphalting Co. from 1950-92 before his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Sheboygan, the Oostburg Golf League and the Sheboygan Senior Center. Chet was a founding member of the Sheboygan County Christian High School. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, traveling, billiards, playing cards, and going out to eat with family and friends. Chester cherished the time he could spend with his family. Chester is survived by his wife, Tannie: three daughters, Phyllis (Marve) Wolterstorff of Elmhurst, IL, Kathy (Jim) VanZyl of Highland, IN, Barb (Ren) Siebenga of Toronto, Ont; one son, Jack (Brenda) DeBlaey of Sheboygan; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn (Roger) DeMaster of Oostburg, and Lois (Tom) Armour of Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Carl (Betty) DeBlaey and Norman (Marilyn) DeBlaey, both of Oostburg. Chester was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Van Stelle and Nelda DeBlaey. A Memorial Service will be held at the Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 1 pm with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Burial will take place prior to the memorial service at Oostburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday from 4-8 pm. There will be no viewing on Friday at church prior to the service. The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg (920-564-2771) is serving the DeBlaey family.
