Charles W. Berger, 95, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Monday evening, March 17, 2014, at his home. Charles was born on September 26, 1918, in Sheboygan, son of Adolph and Marie (Johnson) Berger. He was a 1935 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. Charles served in the US Army 32nd Division during WWII in New Guinea from 1940-1945. On August 19, 1944, he married Helen Keippel in Sheboygan Falls. Helen passed away on May 25, 2010. Charles was self-employed as a mason contractor for 18 years. Charles was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was active in the Men's Club, and as an usher. He was a member of the Sheboygan Falls Lions Club, the Sheboygan Falls Police Auxiliary, Lutheran Brotherhood, the American Legion, VFW, and the Sheboygan Falls Volunteer Fire Dept. Charles enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, music, polka dancing, and coffee and breakfast with his friends. Charles is survived by his two daughters, Christine (John) Huibregtse of Woodruff and Charlene Berger of Sheboygan Falls; his three sons, Douglas (Ruth) Berger of Sheboygan Falls, Gregory (Kathy) Berger of Sheboygan, and Steven (Barb) Berger of Sheboygan; eleven grandchildren, Jason Oppeneer, Karianne (Andrew) Nyhof, Nicol Oppeneer, Jenny (Mike) LeMahieu, Erin (Kurt) Harmon, Kevin Berger, Cheri (Troy) Thompson, Stacy (Troy) Fors, Jon Berger, Ryan (Cassandra) Berger, and Tara (Chad) Lewandowski; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Diane) Berger of Concord, CA; and two sisters-in-law, Hilda Gutoski of Sheboygan Falls and Ruth Voyt of Minocqua. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen; his son, Dennis Berger; three sisters; 6 brothers; and daughter-in-law, Edith Berger. Funeral services to celebrate Charles' life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 24, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Mark Janzen officiating. Burial and military honors will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Charles' name for St. Nicholas Home Health Care & Hospice.
