Caroline Stroschein

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Caroline Stroschein," Mrs. Wally" 97, of Sheboygan Falls who died peacefully with her grandaughter, Rachael at her side on Saturday morning, October 1, 2016 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center. Caroline was born on December 6, 1918 in Sheboygan, the daughter of John Sr. and Caroline (Jost) DeZwarte. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1936 and the Sheboygan County Normal Teacher College in 1938. On May 31, 1941 she married Waldemar Stroschein at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Wally preceded her in death on September 26, 1965. Caroline was a practical nurse for several years and taught in one room schoolhouses at Schwartzwald, Independence and Holden Schools as well as substituting at various Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls schools. Primarily though, Caroline was a photographer with her husband, owning Wally's Studio in downtown Sheboygan Falls from 1946 until its closing in 2014. She photographed over 1000 weddings and was a contract photographer for the Sheboygan Press. Caroline was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, where she was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, taught Sunday school and was an organizer for the St. Paul's Quilters. She was an organizer for the Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street program and supporter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She was a gifted seamstress and sewed many costumes for the theatre, dance recitals, wedding dresses, and making "Santa Bags" for her family. She enjoyed quilting, word puzzles, gardening, plants and flowers, bowling, fishing, and traveling. Caroline was very involved with the care of her grandchildren and was known to many as "Grandma Shine". Caroline is survived by one daughter, Lorraine "Lorrie" (Gerald "Jerry") Wilson of Sheboygan Falls; eight grandchildren, Monica (Rick) Bailey, Rachael Wilson, Jason Wilson, Nathan (Shantel) Stroschein, Nicholas (Anna) Stroschein, Tara (Nick) Karls, Rebecca Stroschein and Spring Stroschein; 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way; three great great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Isabelle DeZwarte of Sheboygan Falls. Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Wally; two sons, an infant, Frederick Stroschein and Gary Stroschein; one brother, John DeZwarte Jr.; a half-sister, Marion (Leroy) Paasch; and three half-brothers, Elwood (Joanne), Melbourne (Hazel), and Auburn DeZwarte. A funeral to celebrate Caroline's life will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 6:30 pm with the Rev. Mark Janzen officiating. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan. Family and friends will meet at church on Tuesday from 3:30 pm until the time of the service at 6:30 pm.
