Carl D. Vander Ploeg Carl "CV" D. Vander Ploeg, 77, of Oostburg, passed away with his family at his side on Friday afternoon, November 16, 2012 at Cedar Grove Gardens. Carl was born on August 7, 1935 in Oostburg, son of William and Marjorie (De Master) Vander Ploeg. He was a 1953 graduate of Oostburg High School. Carl served in the US Army from 1954-1956. On May 18, 1956, he married Geraldine Potter in Mineral Wells, TX. Carl was a mechanic with Standard Service for 35 years. He was also employed as a custodian with Oostburg Public Schools for 14 years until his retirement in 1998. Carl was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where he served as a deacon and usher. He was a volunteer of the Oostburg Fire Department for 25 years. Carl also volunteered with the Salvation Army and was a WIAA official for baseball, volleyball, football, and basketball. He enjoyed golf, sports, yard work, cars, card playing, traveling, and coin collecting. Carl enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Carl will be missed for his whistle and sense of humor. Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gerry; his daughter, Lynn (Dan) Molter of Cedar Grove; his son, Tom (Michele) Vander Ploeg of Sheboygan Falls; four grandchildren, Allison (Alex) Feix, Michael Molter, Megan and John Vander Ploeg; one great-grandson, Nolan Feix; two sisters, Molly Brusse of Oostburg and Karen Buyze of Naples, FL; and one brother, Neil (Phyllis) Vander Ploeg of Oostburg; one sister-in-law, Jean (Larry) Lukens of Cedar Grove; and two brothers-in-law, Glenn (Sally) DenHollander of Sheboygan and Marv (Beverly) Potter of Oostburg. Carl is also survived by nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Richard Brusse. Funeral services to celebrate Carl's life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, November 19, 2012 at First Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday from 3-7 pm, and on Monday, at church, from 9:30am until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Carl's name for the Gathering Place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls and the Salvation Army.
