Carl J. Nyenhuis, 87, of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Carl was born on April 26, 1929 in Oostburg to William and Alice (Hendrikse) Nyenhuis. Carl attended Oostburg High School. Carl served his country in the US Army from 1951-1953. On September 21, 1951, he married Nelda J. Debbink in Gibbsville. Nelda passed away on March 15, 2004. Carl worked for Kingsly Olds from 1953-58. In 1958 he started Carls Service, partnering with Jim Dulmes in 1962, and retired in 1990. After his retirement he worked for Palms Power Center and Sheboygan Auto Supply. Carl was a member of Oostburg Christian Reformed Church until 1967 when he and Nelda became members of Gibbsville Reformed Church. He served as an usher and deacon during their years at Gibbsville Reformed Church. Carl was a member of the American Legion Hartman - Lammers Post #286. In 1967 Carl became president of the Gibbsville Sanitary District and served for 20 years. Carl was also on the Town of Lima Board of Adjustment Appeals for 15 years. Carl was known as "Mr. Fix it" because of his love to tinker and fix lawn mowers and anything else with an engine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, spending time at the cottages on Lake Ellen and Lake Michigan, trips to Florida during the winter months, Sunday afternoon visits he made to shut ins at Pine Haven and the local hospitals, and spending time with his family. Carl is survived by his daughter, Debra (Richard) Uttech of Sheboygan; his son, Gene Nyenhuis of Gibbsville; one son-in-law, Dave Wilterdink of Sheboygan Falls; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Stan) Bassuener, Bradley (fiancé Jennifer Bubb) Uttech, Aimee (Pat) Moehring, Garret, Noah, Donna, and Eli Wilterdink; two great grandchildren, Devin and Katelyn Bassuener; two sisters, Lenore Burhop and Joan (Wayne) Ruppel; two brothers, Ivan (Audrey) Nyenhuis and William (Joan) Nyenhuis; one sister-in-law, Fransisca Nyenhuis; special friend, Billie McLaughlin. Carl is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nelda, his daughter, Lauri Wilterdink, and an infant son, Bradley; one brother, Gerald Nyenhuis and one sister, Rose Ann Nyenhuis. Funeral services to celebrate Carl's life will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. John Ornee officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson with Military Honors.
