Carl Huibregtse

October 1, 1930 — December 19, 2013

Carl John Huibregtse, 83, of Cedar Grove, entered into eternal life on Thursday, December 19, 2013, surrounded by his family. Carl was born on October 1, 1930, to Anthony and Ellen (Prinsen) Huibregtse on his grandparents' farm south of Cedar Grove. When Carl was young, he worked on different farms during the summer. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1948. Carl worked for American Motors in Milwaukee prior to being drafted into the Marine Corps in January 1952. On December 30, 1952, he married Phyllis Kappers in Oostburg, WI, and they returned to San Francisco where Carl worked in the Supply Depot until being honorably discharged in 1954. After returning to Cedar Grove, Carl worked at Bolens in Port Washington for a short time before starting the Shell Service Station with Ralph Voskuil in 1955. Besides offering full service to their customers, they also delivered fuel oil and gas. Carl enjoyed providing customers with the best cars available through the car dealership. After the sale of the Shell Service Station in 1994, Carl continued working with his son, Dean, at Cedar Grove Auto. He never really retired, as he enjoyed going to the 'shop' each day. Carl was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where he served as an usher, deacon, elder, and church treasurer. He was on the board of directors of Cedar Grove Cemetery and belonged to Cedar Grove Legion Post 338. Carl and Phyllis enjoyed trips with friends and family to Canada and many states including Hawaii and Alaska. Time spent in northern Wisconsin at 'The Shack' and their cottage on Lake Mary provided many memories of snowmobiling, fishing, deer hunting, and relaxing. Carl and Phyllis supported the activities of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Carl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, three daughters, Lynn (Mark) Huenink of Appleton, Gail (Dennis) Prinsen of Manchester, IA, Kay (Steve) Veldhorst of Neenah, and one son, Dean, of Cedar Grove.
