Ben Herr, 84, of Oostburg graduated to glory on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 while at his home with his family at his side.Ben was born on March 16, 1933 in Pontiac, MI, the son of Norman Sr. and Mildred (Hulslander) Herr. Ben served in the US Army from 1951-55 while stationed in Okinawa.   On May 11, 1956, he married Nelvie Nyenhuis in Oostburg. Ben worked as a press operator at Polar Ware for 41 years before his retirement in 1996.He was a charter member of Grace Bible Church in Adell where he served as an active volunteer. He enjoyed fix-it projects, time in his garage, gardening, raising roses and other flowers, playing the harmonica and recorder, memorizing Scripture and listening to Gospel music. He cherished the time he could spend with his family and shared his faith every opportunity that he could.Ben is survived by his wife, Nelvie of Oostburg; two daughters, Susan (Dean) Hesselink of Oostburg, Barbara (John) Crossett of Deltona, FL  one son, Timothy (friend Kathy) Herr of Oostburg; 11 grandchildren, LaShawn (Derrick) Dobbs, Ryan (Melissa) Crossett, Danielle (David) Hurst, Kyle (Brianna) Crossett, Charissa (Jeremy) Gruenke, Dustin Hesselink, Briana Hesselink, Stacie (Rhett) Stous, Kristina (Andy) Gabrielse, Joshua Herr and Amanda (fiancé Michael Klug) Herr; 20 great grandchildren; two sisters, Kay Dillon and Nancy (Bob) Coverdill, both of Cass City, MI; three sisters-in-law, Lorraine Herr of California, Audrey Nyenhuis and Laverne Nyenhuis, both of Oostburg; nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jackie (Shird) Rife and Phyllis (Irving Kucharski and Lyle) Milkerson; and three brothers, Norman Jr., Bill and Lamar Herr.A celebration of his life will take place at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 5 pm with Dr. Paul Thyren officiating.
