Burton Tempas

Burton Fred Tempas, 94, a resident of Prairie Crossing in Sheboygan Falls, and formerly of Cedar Grove, passed away Wednesday, June 03, 2015 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. Burt was born on August 19, 1920 in the village of Adell to Fred and Mabel (Kamerling) Tempas. Burt was a 1938 graduate of Waldo High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII from 1942-1948. On September 14, 1944 he married Mildred Rauwerdink at Hingham Reformed Church. After he returned from the Navy, Burt was a partner in the Adell Motor Sales Garage until 1956, he then was a mechanic & service representative for Kohler General for 15 years until his retirement in 1982. Burt was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where he served as a church deacon, elder, choir member and Sunday school teacher. He was involved in the Wednesday Mens Prayer Group and Lay Witness Missions. Burt was also involved in Gideons International and was on the board for Words of Hope. Burt is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred; three daughters, Ginny (John) Stralow of Pella, IA, Elaine (Robert) Scholl of Cedar Grove and Laurie (Tad) Carls of Lakeland, FL; one son, Lee (Bonnie) Tempas of Oostburg; nine grandchildren, Ray (Kathy) Stralow, Kim (Robert) Gates, Rob (Julie) Scholl, Jon (Kat) Scholl, Chris (Tristan) Carls, Lucas Carls, Amy (Alan) Wilterdink, Joel Tempas and Jody (Joe) Austreng; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister,Betty Buehler of Sheboygan Falls; three sisters-in-law, Avis Tempas of Arizona, Joyce Rauwerdink of Oostburg, and Lillian Grotenhuis of Cedar Grove. He is further survived by nieces, nephews , other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter, Cornelius "Ned" (Shirley) and Robert (Helen) Tempas; one sister, Mary (Casper) Voskuil; one brother-in-law Gordon Buehler. A memorial service to celebrate Burt's life will be on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 12pm at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 9am until the time of service at 12pm. A memorial fund is being established in Burt's name for Gideons International, Words of Hope, and First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove.
