Betty J. DeRoo, 66, of Oostburg and formerly of Cedar Grove, died Sunday afternoon, July 25, 2010 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls following an illness since February. Betty was born on November 2, 1943 in Oconto, the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline (Subert) Strnad. Betty graduated from Oconto High School in 1961. She married Marvin D. DeRoo on June 16, 1972 in Waukegan, IL. Betty was an active member at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg where she participated in the Wednesday Morning Bible Study, Tuesday Breakfast Club, funeral serving committee, and was a Little Lambs nursery volunteer. She enjoyed reading, flowers, gardening, fishing, and traveling to Canada. Betty had a servant heart and was a devoted homemaker and caregiver especially to her husband and daughter, Kristina. Betty is survived by her husband, Marvin of Oostburg; two daughters, Michelle (Chris) Pugh of North Carolina, Kristina DeRoo of Sheboygan Falls; three step daughters, Glenda (Tim) Regan, Dawn (Doug Arndt) DeRoo, and Vicki (Todd) Emmanuel, all of MN; one step son, Mark (Michelle) DeRoo of MN; ten grandchildren; Joshua, Makayla, Adam, Ashley, Andrea, Becky, Emma, Kayla, Brittany, and Rick; two great grandchildren, Tommy and Alyssa; one brother, Clarence (Judy) Strnad of Lena; and one sister-in-law, Laura Strnad of Oconto. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Myron Strnad. A celebration of Betty's life will take place at the funeral service to be held at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 1:30 pm with the Rev. Dr. Les Kuiper officiating. A family service will precede in the fellowship hall at 1:15 pm. Burial will follow at Hartman Cemetery in the Town of Wilson. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday from 4-8 pm, and on Thursday, at church, from noon until the time of service.
