Betty J. Caljouw, 89, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Betty was born on April 26, 1925, in Bern, Kansas, daughter of Norman and Hazel (Tate) Cordill. She was a 1943 graduate of Topeka High School. On May 8, 1971, she married EJ Caljouw in Chicago. Betty was employed as a management analyst for the US Housing & Urban Development for over 23 years before her retirement in 1986. Betty was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg where she participated in the Bible Study Group and the Prayer Circle. She enjoyed reading, golf, traveling, crocheting, and card playing. Betty is survived by her husband of 43 years, EJ; one daughter, Bonnie Ardrey of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, Julie Spier, Brian Rainey, Michelle Padgett, Lauren Canada, Christine Haver, Gina Haver, Courtney Haver; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Robert) Hill of Hamilton, OH and Marylou (Mack) Martinez of Sacramento, CA; and dear nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at Noon on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Interment will take place next to her mother at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 am until the time of the service at noon. A memorial fund has been established in Betty's name for the First Reformed Church and the Salvation Army.
