Bertha Haken

Bertha Ten Haken, 96, of Sheboygan Falls, died on Monday morning, July 6, 2009 at the Pine Haven Christian Home where she had resided for the past eight years. Bertha was the youngest and thirteenth child born on January 13, 1913 to the late David and Jemima (Van de Vreede) Van Stelle. On January 4, 1933 she married Chester Ten Haken in Sheboygan. Chester preceded her in death on May 9, 2002. She and her husband operated a dairy farm in the Town of Lima for many years. Bertha also worked at the Gibbsville Cheese Factory for several years. Bertha was a member of the Gibbsville Reformed Church, the choir, Bethany Circle, Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Gibbsville Homemaker Club. Bertha enjoyed to read and crochet. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth (Roy) Ten Pas of Gibbsville, and Kathy (Bob) Ingelse of Oostburg; one son, Jerome (Marlys) Ten Haken of Sheboygan; a daughter-in-law, Joyce (Dale) Sorenson of Clear Lake, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Avery) Ten Haken, Heather (Michael) Chapman, Tom (Jean) Ten Haken, Tim (Kristi) Ten Haken, Mark (Amy) Ten Haken, Terry (Jill) Ten Pas, Brad (Anne) Ten Pas, Tracy (Rev. Marc) Nelesen, Cory (Jill) Ingelse; and 14 great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Chester, her son, Ronald Ten Haken; a granddaughter, Tricia Ten Haken; and twelve brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 11 am at Gibbsville Reformed Church in Gibbsville with the Rev. Marc Nelesen and the Rev. Dr. Al Vander Meer officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9 am until the time of the service at 11 am. A memorial fund has been established in her name for Gibbsville Reformed Church and Pine Haven Christian Home.
