Audley "Aud" Roerdink Audley Eugene Roerdink, 84, a resident of Cedar Grove Gardens Assisted Living, died there Sunday evening, November 23, 2008. He was born September 30, 1924 in Oostburg, the son of the late William and Grace (Dirkse) Roerdink. Audley attended Oostburg High School. He served in the US Army during WWII with Company C, 361st Infantry, 91st Division, in combat in Italy. He received a Bronze Star. On June 4, 1947 he married Arlie Wieberdink in Cedar Grove. Audley worked at Kohler Company as a brass polisher for 33 years before retiring in 1987. After his retirement he was employed at Dirkse Piggly Wiggly for 20 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where he served as usher. Audley was a member of the American Legion Post #338, a charter member and past president of Holland Guild and Het Museum. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years. Audley enjoyed bowling, golfing and woodworking. Aud's greatest joys came from his family and spending time with them. He was always there to lend a helping hand with projects large and small. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. We all loved him very much and shall miss him greatly. Survivors include his wife, Arlie; one son, Tom (Marcia) Roerdink of Cascade; two daughters, Mary (Patrick) Gillette of Sheboygan, Donna (James) Smies of Cedar Grove; six grandchildren, Richard (Lisa) Gillette, Mindy (Timothy J.) Stopar, Rebecca (Jack) Dulmes, Sara Smies, Anna (Matthew) Heinen, David Smies; seven great grandchildren, Hugh, Gracie and Gavin Gillette, Faith and Carson Stopar, Caleb and Abigail Heinen and an expected great grandchild in May. He is also survived by his in-laws, LaVerne Wieberdink of Cedar Grove, Gordon (Jean) Wieberdink of Sheboygan Falls, Leslie (Arline) Wieberdink, Ivan and Edie Beernink all of Cedar Grove; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Hannah (Henry) Grapentine, Dena (Kenneth) Pantel, Nelda (Joe) Krezek; two brothers, Henry (Eleanor) Roerdink, and John Roerdink. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary OPC with Rev. Ronald L. Beabout, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Grove Presbyterian Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the family service at 10:45 a.m. A memorial fund will be established in his name. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Cedar Grove Gardens, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for the love and tender care shown to Audley.
