Arthur H. Vander Waal Arthur Henry Vander Waal , age 80, of 608 North 13th Street, Oostburg, died on Monday morning, November 17, 2008, at the Sheboygan Senior Community, following a brief illness. Art was born on December 26, l927, in Sheboygan, a son of the late Arthur and Johanna (Gabrielse) Vander Waal. He attended Oostburg High School and on March 16, 1955, married the former Shirley Smies at the home of Shirley's parents in Sheboygan. He farmed in the Oostburg area and also was employed at Gilson Brothers until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Bethel OPC in Oostburg and enjoyed being with his family, traveling, camping, playing cards with friends, taking care of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and going on bus trips. He was also a member of the Low Vision Club at the Sheboygan Senior Center. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, his son, David (Carol) Vander Waal of Oostburg and their children, Jennifer, Jody fiance' Heath Simpson) Justin Vander Waal and Joanna (Tony) Huber, his son, Bob (Cheri) Vander Waal of Caseyville, IL and their children, Joey, Emily, Nathan and Bethany, a daughter Sue (Glenn) Frier of Oostburg and their children, Amy Vander Waal and Angie Inselman (special friend, Walter Brendel) and daughter Nancy (John) DeGroff of Waldo and their children, Tom (fiance' Jessica DePagter) Rob, Stephanie and Danny DeGroff, two great-grandchildren, Emma and Wally, a brother-in-law Lincoln (Jeanette) Davies of Oostburg and sisters-in-law, Esther Vander Waal of Oostburg and Marie Vander Waal of Sheboygan, Fran TeRonde of West Allis and Ruth (Ron) Ramaker of Brown Deer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gertrude Davies and brothers Bill and John Vander Waal. A funeral service will be held for Arthur on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Bethel OPC Church in Oostburg, with the Reverend John Tinsley officiating. Burial will take place in Oostburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Avenue, Oostburg, on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, from 4 to 8 PM and at the church, 609 Center Avenue, on Thursday, from 10:00 AM until the time of the family service at 10:45 AM. A Memorial Fund has been established in Arthur's name.
