Arthur Burgard, Jr., 87, formerly of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL. Arthur was born on July 30, 1925, in Sheboygan, son of Arthur Sr. and Betty (Abraham) Burgard. Arthur served in the US Army during WW II where he was awarded a Purple Heart. On June 14, 1947, he married Dorothea Braun in Sheboygan. Dorothea passed away on September 28, 1999. Arthur was employed as a mechanic for much of his life, including working for his son at Dave's Amoco in Sheboygan Falls. He enjoyed fishing, cars, stock car racing, attending sporting events, many years wintering in Florida, and spending time with his good friend, Jean. Arthur is survived by his daughter, Susan (John Baitinger) Burgard of Fredonia; his four sons, David (Tammy) of Oklahoma, James (Mary) of Sheboygan Falls, Tom (Missy) of Sheboygan Falls, and Arthur III (Karen) Burgard of Sheboygan; nine grandchildren, Jeremey Burgard, Jamie (Michael) Langhof, Michael (Jennifer Schneeberg), Mark (Dawn), Jonathon (Kristi) Burgard, Jodi (Jake) DeMaster, Eric and Luke Burgard, and Kyle Burgard; 13 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Ted Burgard of Sheboygan and Lester Burgard of California. Arthur is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Nancy Burgard of Oklahoma and his special friend, Jean Findlay of Whitehall, Michigan. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dorothea, his parents, two sisters, Ruth and Elaine; and one brother, Ed Burgard. Funeral services to celebrate Arthur's life will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Rev Michael Fintelman officiating. Military Honors will follow the service on Tuesday night. Burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan on Wednesday. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until the time of the services at 7:00 pm.
