Annette Lenning

Annette L. Lenning, 88, formerly of Sheboygan Falls, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC. Annette was born on February 6, 1927, in Duluth, MN, daughter of the late Walter Smith and Althea (Carpenter) Smith. On March 1, 1947, she married Alfred Lenning in Duluth, MN. They were long-time residents of Sheboygan Falls, WI until she and Alfred moved to Harrison, TN, then Statesville, NC, to be closer to their daughter Janet. Annette worked several years as a secretary for the Sheboygan Falls High School and Grade School, and then in the loan department at Security First National Bank. Annette was an active member of the Harrison United Methodist Women, of Harrison TN, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 149 of Sheboygan Falls since 1956. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, classical music, the outdoors, and collected English tea cups. Annette had a precious and loving heart that touched many lives with her presence. She will be remembered as a kind and giving wife, mother, friend, and wonderful "nana", which was always there to help take care of her "furry grandkids". Annette is survived by her husband of 68 years, Alfred; her daughter, Janet (Don) Easterling of Statesville, NC; her son, Jerry (Sylvia) Herman of Madison, TN, three grandchildren; one niece; and seven nephews. Annette was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Lenning, and her two brothers, Allen (Fern) Smith and George (Vivian) Smith. A memorial service to celebrate Annette's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Susan Safford-Gaul officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Annette's name for the American Diabetes Association.
