Ann Mary VerVelde

Ann Mary VerVelde, 87, of Oostburg, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Cedar Grove Gardens.

Ann was born on May 21, 1936, to Jesse and Esther (Wilterdink) Hopeman in Sheboygan. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1953. Ann was united in marriage to Lyle “Duff” VerVelde on October 2, 1954, at Hingham Reformed Church.

Ann was a member of several area churches over the years. She served as the director of choirs and the J.O.Y. singers and was always very involved in music. Ann loved spending time with her family, traveling, playing bingo and many other games.

Ann is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lyle “Duff”; daughter, Lynn (Randall) Walford; daughters-in-law, Deborah (Kevin) VerVelde-Styles, Lori VerVelde; grandchildren, Amy (Shawn) Spellich, Jon (Holli) VanDeWege, Matthew (Kim) VanDeWege, Chad VerVelde, Dane VerVelde, Malorie (Randall Theune) Styles, Justin (Melissa) VerVelde, Spencer (Sarah Meier) VerVelde, Jasmine (Shawn) Verbrigghe, Alexander (Alyssa) Walford; great-grandchildren, Kenneth (Chris) Spellich, Benjamin (Brooke) Spellich, Nicholas (Justice) Spellich, Caden, Ethan, and Grace VanDeWege, Elise, Case, Christian, Adelynn, Crew, and Ivy VanDeWege, Gavin VerVelde, Kenlee Smies, Owen and Tanner VerVelde, Emerson and Isabelle Walford; great-great-grandchildren, Colten and Chloe Spellich, Everleigh and Shepard Spellich. She is further survived by her sister, Harriet (Calvin) Jensema; step sisters-in-law, Diane Oonk, Mary Jo Oonk; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her children, Kenneth VerVelde, Deborah (Don) VanDeWege, Robert VerVelde; parents; parents-in-law, Edward (Mildred Oonk) VerVelde; step-mother-in-law, Dorothy (Wingert Oonk) VerVelde; twin sisters, Jean Hopeman (infant) and Jane (Andrew) Smies; brother, David W. (Mary) Hopeman; brother-in-law, Wayne (Constance) VerVelde; step-sister-in-law, Beverly (Oonk) Vandowski.

A Celebration of Ann’s life will be held at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11:00am with Pastor Brian Taylor officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Funeral Home on Sunday, December 3, from 2:00-5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Ann’s name to Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund (SCCCF.org), Children’s Hospital Milwaukee, Oostburg School Endowment Fund, or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Ann’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bettag, Pastor Brian Taylor, and the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, Cedar Grove Gardens, Wenig Funeral Home, Embrace Care, and Silver Services.
