Alyce J. DePagter, 92, of Oostburg, died on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Alyce was born on May 27, 1919 in the Town of Lima, daughter of G. John and Jennie (VanEss) Rauwerdink. She was raised on a farm near Hingham and attended Hingham School and Oostburg High School. Alyce received her high school diploma at the age of 63 in 1982. On October 30, 1940 she married Roland DePagter in the Town of Lima. Roland passed away on July 24, 1976. Alyce was employed with Musebeck Shoe Co., Cedar Grove Canning Co, Mentink Grocery Store, Oostburg High School food service, the Knotty Pine Restaurant, and most recently Pine Haven Nursing Home. Alyce was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg, where she was active in the Mission Circle and also served as an organist. She was a member of Young at Heart, Project Linus, Friendship Bible Study, small group studies, Oostburg Senior Citizens, and Friday Afternoon Care Group. Alyce enjoyed music and singing, card playing, quilting and crocheting, traveling, gardening and flowers, walking, the outdoors, and lunch with friends. She was a loyal Oostburg basketball fan. Alyce sang with the "Mel-o-de's", a singing group that traveled and recorded several albums. She played piano for the Pine Haven Hymn Sings, and enjoyed playing piano up until the time of her death. Alyce will always be remembered for her "young at heart" attitude. Alyce is survived by four sons, Arnold (Renae) DePagter of Grand Rapids, MI, Kenneth (Jane) DePagter of Sheboygan, David (Karen) DePagter of Tampa, FL, and Tom (Joyce) DePagter of Oostburg; 11 grandchildren, Andrea (David) Murdock, Anthony (Kim) DePagter, Chad (Patricia) DePagter, Kimberly (Joe) Soletti, Greg (Tonya) DePagter, Joel (Alicia) DePagter, Kenneth DePagter Jr., Carrie (David) Govek, Amanda (Justin) Fay, Josh (friend Laura Rammer) DePagter and Derek (Sarah) DePagter; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Alice June VerVelde of Oostburg; brother-in-law, Leslie Cole of Cedar Grove. Alyce is also survived by special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland; one brother, Harvard (Dorothy) Rauwerdink; one sister, Hazel (Leland) Bloemers; one brother-in-law, Roland VerVelde; and two sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Eugene) Lammers and Evelyn Cole. Funeral services to celebrate Alyce's life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1 pm at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Wayne Tripp officiating. Interment will take place in Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at 1 pm.
