Alwin H. Navis, 93, of Hingham, passed away on Monday morning, December 7, 2009 at Pine Haven Christian Residential Home. Alwin was born on May 4, 1916 in the Town of Holland, son of the late John and Mary (Ramaker) Navis. He attended Adell Grade School and graduated from Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove in 1930. On October 22, 1942 he married the late Anne Joosse in Cedar Grove. She preceded him in death on January 30, 1998. Alwin and his family owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Sherman for many years. Alwin was a member of Hingham Reformed Church, where he was active as a deacon, elder, and a Sunday School teacher. Alwin enjoyed bowling, playing cards and games, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by three sons, John (Marjorie) Navis of Waldo, James (special friend, Rhonda Mears) Navis of Georgetown, IN, and Gary Navis of Madison; eight grandchildren, Richard (Dawn) Navis, Annette (Tim) Wisse, Mary (Chad) Lensink, Michael (Jennifer) Navis, Timothy (Leslie) Navis, Scott (Tina) Navis, Stacie (Andy) Fuchs, and Shari (Rob) Willy; 19 great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Rauwerdink of Hingham; one brother, Ervin Navis of Pine Haven Christian Home; four sister-in-laws, LaVerne Joosse of Hingham, JoAnn (Carl) TenPas, Marie (Paul) Nyhof, and Phyllis Joosse, all of Cedar Grove; and many nieces and nephews. Alwin was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; a daughter-in-law, Mary Annette Navis; one brother, Lester (Bernice) Navis; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Navis; one brother-in-law, Harold Rauwerdink, and many brothers and sister-in-laws. Funeral services will be held at Hingham Reformed Church on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 11 am with the Rev. Steven Bakker officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hingham Reformed Church on Tuesday from 9 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
