Alvera Ongna

Alvera P. Ongna, 92, of Sheboygan Falls, formerly of Gibbsville, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center in Sheboygan. Alvera was born November 24, 1917 in Gibbsville to Lawrence and Minnie (Nyhof) Liezen. She graduated from the Cedar Grove Academy in 1935. On April 12, 1939 she married Harvey W. Ongna in the Town of Lima. Harvey passed away December 18, 1990. Alvera worked closely with her husband Harvey as a bookkeeper for Ongna Wood Products, the family business, for 37 years. She retired in 1982. Alvera was a lifetime member of the Gibbsville Reformed Church. She was a member of Christian Endeavor, Bethany Circle, and the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Club, an auxiliary member of Gideons, taught Sunday school, and was part of Middle Age Bible Study. Alvera loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed collecting dolls, traveling, flowers, and visiting the sick. Alvera and Harvey were able to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary in 1990. Alvera is survived by: four sons, Richard (Dianne) Ongna of Eden Prairie, MN, Philip (Mary) Ongna of Sheboygan Falls, Dr. Daniel Ongna of Stevens Point, WI, Scott (Bonnie) Ongna of Sheboygan Falls; nine grandchildren, Kim (Harlan) Bousema, Sandy (Dennis) Flipse, Colette (Steve) Voskuil, Jeff (Kelly) Ongna, Brad Ongna, Shelly (Dan) Kolste, Jamie (Jared) Hubbard, Nathan (Cassie) Ongna, Stephanie (Mike) Brasser; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, LaVerne Verhulst of Sheboygan Falls and Loretta Gabrielse of Sheboygan; one sister-in-law Dorothy Voskuil of Oostburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alvera was preceded in death by her: parents; husband Harvey; one brother Ralph. Funeral services for Alvera will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. Luke Schouten officiating. A family service will precede at 1:15 pm. Interment will be in Hingham Cemetery, Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and from 10:00 am until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Alvera's name for the Gibbsville Reformed Church and Gideons International.
