Alvah P. Ter Maat, 83, formerly of Oostburg, died early on Saturday morning, November 25, 2006 at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past five years. Alvah was born on August 8, 1922 in the Town of Sigel in Wood County, Wisconsin, the son of the late Christian and Sara (Huisheere) Ter Maat. Alvah was a faithful member at First Reformed Church in Oostburg. Alvah sang solos at church and attended Sunday School. He volunteered to take Sunday morning attendance count for many years as his service to the congregation. Whether it was at church, in his community, or at Sunny Ridge, he was always eager to help any way he could. He also attended Oostburg Senior Citizens. Alvah worked at RCS in Sheboygan for about ten years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed knitting many scarves and blankets for his nieces, nephews and many others. He also enjoyed watching favorites TV programs. Alvah is survived by his sister, Esther Brusse of Pine Haven Christian Home; 14 nieces and nephews, great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Irma (Jake) Kievert, Wilma (Jack) Clark, Etta (Martin) Brandl; one brother, John (Margaret) Ter Maat; and one brother-in-law, Henry Brusse. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg at 5 pm, TODAY, Sunday, November 26, 2006 with the Rev Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery.
