Alma Hopeman

Alma G. Hopeman, 94, formerly of Cedar Grove, died early Wednesday morning, March 11, 2009 at Pine Haven Christian Home where she had resided for the past five years. Alma was born on October 9, 1914 in the Town of Holland, the daughter of the late Garret and Cena (Nonhof) Neerhof. She attended Southside School in Cedar Grove. On May 26, 1944 Alma married William Hopeman in Cedar Grove. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1975. Alma was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and the Ruth Circle. She was a member of Senior Citizens and enjoyed reading, gardening, card playing, word puzzles and family get-togethers. Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Lloyd) DeRuyter of Cedar Grove; two sons, Harland (Marian) Hopeman of Oostburg, Mark (Deborah) Hopeman of Cedar Grove; nine grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) DeRuyter, Cari (Justin) Sieracki, Jill (Chad) Koser, Carl (Pam) Hopeman, Heidi (Jamie) Eernisse, Kevin (Tanya) Hopeman, Michelle, Daniel (Traci) and Jason (fiancé Jeni) Hopeman; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hopeman; granddaughter, Amy Hopeman; three sisters, Gladys Heinen, Esther TerMaat, Helen Ledeboer and a brother, Donald Neerhof. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, with the Rev. Kent Vant Hul, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at church on Saturday, from 10 am until the time of the service at 1 pm. The Hopeman family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs at Pine Haven Christian Home and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the dedicated and loving care given to Alma and their family.
