Alice June VerVelde, 83, of Oostburg, died Friday night, December 14, 2012 at Aurora Grafton Medical Center. June was born on June 26, 1929 in the Town of Holland, the daughter of the late Arnold and Alice (Kleinhesselink) DePagter. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1946 and then attended the Sheboygan County Teacher College. June married the late Roland VerVelde in the Town of Holland on June 9, 1950. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2010. June taught in several rural Sheboygan County schools including the Oostburg Christian School. June was a librarian at the Mead Public Library in Sheboygan from 1966 until her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg where she served as church librarian. She was also a very active member of the Oostburg Historical Society and the Friends of Oostburg Library. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, ancestry, community history, and sport spectating. June is survived by her son, Jerry, of Oostburg, a daughter, Gail (Bob) Larson of Elberton, GA; two grandsons, Vincent Freer and James (friend Casey Adams) Freer; three brothers-in-law, Les Cole of Cedar Grove, David (Eleanor) Wingert of Sheboygan Falls and Gerald (Betty) Veldboom of Sheboygan; and two special nieces, Nancy (Dan) Huenink of Hingham and Betty (Dale) Teunissen of Cedar Grove. June was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; an infant grandaughter, Tambria Fischer; her parents, Arnold and Alice DePagter, and Dennis Koskamp; two sisters, Marjorie (Eugene) Lammers, and Evelyn Cole; and one brother, Roland (Alice) DePagter. A funeral to celebrate June's life will take place at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Tom Pettinga officiating. Burial will take place at the Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday from 4-7 pm, and on Tuesday, at church, from 9:30 until the time of service at 10:30 am.
