Alice Schaaf

Alice Schaaf, 99, of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012 at Meadowview Manor in Sheboygan. Alice was born on May 7, 1913 in Alto, WI, daughter of Andrew and Hannah (Wassink) Buteyn. She attended school in the Wisconsin Rapids area. On May 18, 1933 she married Fred Schaaf in Vesper, WI. Fred preceded her in death on November 1, 1982. Alice worked for Musebeck Shoe Co. for several years and did housekeeping for area families. Alice was a longtime member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg. She lived her life as a true Christian. She was active in the Martha Society, Oostburg Christian School Circle, Oostburg Senior Citizens, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Alice enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, knitting and baking for family and friends. Alice is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy (Carl) Katsma-Blok of Oostburg and Darlene Bolt of Prinsburg, MN; nine grandchildren, Terry (Nancy), Tom (Mary), John (Marliss), Dale (Chris) Katsma, Sue Bolt, Patty (Mark) Veurink, Dianne (Marlin) Ammermann, Barbara (Dave) Esselink, Kay (Daryl) Hillers; 28 great-grandchildren; five great great grandchildren. Alice is also survived by step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Fred; two son-in-laws, Ted Katsma and Arvid Bolt; two sisters, and three brothers. Funeral services to celebrate Alice's life will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Willie Gesch officiating. Burial will take place at the Hartman Cemetery in the Town of Wilson. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at noon. A memorial fund has been established in Alice's name for the Oostburg Christian School and the Central Minnesota Christian School in Prinsburg, MN.
