Alice DeMaster

Alice C. De Master, 86, of Cedar Grove died on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Cedar Grove Gardens where she was a resident for the past four years. Alice was born on April 16, 1930 in the Town of Wilson, the daughter of Alvin and Cora (Hendrikse) Ten Pas. She was a 1948 graduate of Oostburg High School. Alice worked as secretary for Oostburg High School from 1948 until 1953. On October 23, 1953 she married Dale P. De Master in Oostburg. Dale preceded her in death on January 12, 2013 following 59 years of marriage. Alice was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, baking, and playing the piano and organ. She and her husband enjoyed taking car rides in the country. Alice is survived by two sons, Jeffrey De Master of Berlin and Jerry (Laura) De Master of Hope, RI; one grandaughter, Cassandra De Master; two step grandchildren, Nova (John) McNally and Robert (Natalie) Englund; three step great grandchildren; one sister, Ione (William) Salmi of Michigan; two brothers, Daniel (Marian) Ten Pas of Oostburg and Carl (JoAnn) Ten Pas of Colorado; two sisters-in-law Virgilyn De Master and Jean Mentink, both of Oostburg; a brother-in-law, Ralph Heinen of Cedar Grove and a dear friend, Linda Jensema of Cedar Grove. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; and two sisters, LaVerne (Fred) Shinkle and an infant sister, Alma Ten Pas. A funeral to celebrate Alice's life will take place at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Al Schut officiating. Burial will take place at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the church on Sunday from 5-7 pm and on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
