Adrian "Si" Buyze, 95, of Oostburg died on Thursday morning, December 27, 2012 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center. Si was born on February 19, 1917 in Sheboygan, the son of the late Simon and Aartje (Lensen) Buyze. Si attended Sheboygan Christian Grade School and Lincoln-Erdman School in Sheboygan. Si served in the US Army National Guard for three years. He married Marian Theune on December 27, 1939 in Sheboygan. Marian preceded him in death on October 27, 1996. Si worked as a cabinetmaker for the Panzer Lumber Co. in Sheboygan and then for the Jos. Schmitt & Sons Construction Co. for 27 years before his retirement in 1980. Si was a longtime and devoted member at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg, where he served as deacon, elder, trustee, and chairman of the building committee. He was also a charter member of the Oostburg Christian School Board. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, bowling, and following the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. Si is survived by one daughter, Carol (Don) Kernwein of Arkansas; three sons, Stanley (Ann) Buyze of Hingham, Roger (Linda) Buyze of Oostburg, and Jay (Gail) Buyze, of Hingham; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Si was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; a daughter-in-law Judith (Lammers) Buyze; four sisters, Adriana (Burton Dirkse, John Kruis, Frank DeYoung), Nell (Chris) Otten, Lee (James) Flores, an infant sister, Lucy; and two brothers, infant Simon and Daniel (Mary) Buyze. A funeral to celebrate Si's life will take place at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2 pm with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. A family service will precede at 1:45 pm in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 4-8 pm, and at church on Saturday, from 1 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm.
