Robert Harder

Robert C. Harder, 94, of Kohler peacefully passed away on Saturday morning, August 8, 2015 at Pine Haven Residential Home where he had resided for the past six years. Robert was born on October 7, 1920 in Sheboygan, the son of the late Christian and Catherine (Scherer) Harder. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1939 and the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1950. Robert served in the US Navy during World War II from 1942-46. On July 23, 1955 he married Caroline Kaat in Kohler. Caroline preceded him in death on July 2, 1998. Robert was a mechanical engineer for the Optenberg Iron Works in Sheboygan for 35 years before his retirement in 1985. Robert was a longtime member at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler where he served as chairman, elder, Couples Bible Study and on many committees. He was also active in numerous professional associations and the Sheboygan Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, drafting and designing, and spending winters at their home in Fort Myers, FL. He is survived by one daughter, Amy (Joe) Sacha of Stevenson, Michigan; two sons, Thomas (Paula) Harder of Elgin, Illinois and Robert (Cindy) Harder of Yamhill, Oregon; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a special caring friend, Betty Hahn of Kohler. A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 1 PM with the Rev. Robert Steele officiating; Inurnment will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Kohler. Family and friends will gather at the church on Saturday from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm.
