Lona Hilbelink

Lona Hilbelink, 97, of Cedar Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, May 21, 2011, at her home. Lona was born on February 10, 1914 in Hingham, the daughter of Herman and Susan (Zuurmond) Rauwerdink. On May 21, 1937 she married Raymond Hilbelink in Oostburg. Raymond preceded her in death on June 21, 1988. Lona was a devoted homemaker to her family and caregiver to numerous family and friends. She briefly worked at the Rain Coat Factory in Oostburg and did accounting work for their family business, E & R Plumbing in Cedar Grove. Lona was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where she participated in the Missionary Society, Calvary Bible League and the Ladies Sunday School Class. She attended the Senior Center in Cedar Grove and was a volunteer with the Good As New Shop, the Red Cross and the Cedar Grove-Belgium Elementary Grade School Library She enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards for many occasions. Lona enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, and word puzzles. Lona looked forward to the annual Holland Festival and being a street scrubber with her husband. Lona is survived by her daughter, Sandra Veldboom of Cedar Grove; her son, Rev. John (Lois) Hilbelink of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren, Deborah (Todd) Taves, Stephen (Danielle) Hilbelink, Christa (Jason) MacLean, Heidi (David) Greenwood, Matthew (Alexis) Hilbelink; nine great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Lois Hilbelink of Cedar Grove. Lona is also survived by dear friends and other relatives. Lona was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her son, Gary Hilbelink, and one brother, Harold Rauwerdink. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Ronald Beabout and Rev. John Hilbelink officiating. Burial will take place at the Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 1:30 pm until the time of the service at 3:30 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Lona's memory for the Calvary OPC.
