Janet Kuehn, 87, recently of Golden Living Center, Sheboygan, passed to the Kingdom of Heaven to be with her Holy Family at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice on Wednesday, January 19, after the inevitable battle with old age, complicated by severe and painful osteoporosis. Janet was born in Sheboygan on March 21, 1923, to George and Helen (Bunke) Deskevich. She attended Central HS. Before marriage, she enjoyed working for a number of local businesses, too numerous to mention, husband Ray would often say, "not enough room on the tax forms." Janet met the love of her life, Raymond Kuehn, in the late forties, after Ray returned from the Marines. It was love at first sight and they were married on June 25, 1949. Janet was the glue that held the family together, always worrying when the children got sick, spoiling them at Christmas with too many gifts, getting everyone up for work and school, with that aromatic fresh pot of coffee percolating away on the stove before the sun rose on those frigid winter days. Those days in the fifties and early sixties were magical times, a time when stay-at-home moms were the norm, and we sat around our chrome and formica kitchen table together for breakfast and supper. With a wide circle of friends, Ray and Janet knew how to enjoy life, and so they did through 59 years of marriage, until Ray succumbed to cancer and kidney failure in 2008. Janet was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Janet is survived by daughter Cindy (Bill) Dortman of Sheboygan; sons Scott Kuehn (Joan ) of Sheboygan Falls, and Michael (Cindy) Kuehn of Sheboygan; brother-in-law Robert E. (Denise) Kuehn of London, England; granddaughters Julie Belke, and Jennifer (Mike) Herr; son-in-law Dale Belke; niece Katherine Kuehn of New York, nephews William Kuehn and Jacob Kuehn; step-granddaughters Cindy Williams and Sandy Pasco of Michigan, six great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren, and other relatives, and countless friends. Janet was preceded in death by husband Ray Kuehn; parents George and Helen (Bunke) Deskevich; daughters Heidi Kuehn and Sandra Belke, sister-in-law Janet Kuehn of London; brother Orville Deskevich, and sisters Lorraine Henning, Dorothy Christel, and Eveyln Henning; and grandparents. Funeral services for Janet will be at 6:00 pm on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Joe Cottam officiating. Entombment will be Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 8:30 am at the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum in the Town of Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 pm until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. There are many thanks for all the people who helped Janet and her family over the past few years since Ray died: her friend and neighbor at Mapledale, Margaret; the great staff at St. Nicholas Hospital; the staff of Harmony Living Center; the staff of Golden Living; Dr. Brauer and Joyce of the Marsho Clinic; Pam Bordeau, and the wonderful, caring people at the Sharon Richardson Community Hospice. In your own ways, you comforted her and provided support when she needed it most. Special thanks also to Pastor Joe Cottam and Carolyn Eiden (Church nurse) of St. Mark Lutheran Church for their visits and kind support. Janet loved life, but the painful osteoporosis was taking its toll on her body and spirit. She enjoyed Matlock, Everybody Loves Raymond, westerns and the Andy Griffith Show. Janet will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and an uncanny knack for turning a humorous phrase. She was one of a kind. So long, Mom, give Dad, Heidi and Sandy hugs for us. We miss you all, and we'll see you again one day. Memorials to be established in her name at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and St. Mark Lutheran Church.
