Edward A. Meyer, Sr., 83, of Oostburg, died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Edward was born September 1, 1927 in Sheboygan, WI to Alfred and Marguerite (Heitz) Meyer. He served in the U.S. Navy. On June 5, 1948 Edward married Carolyn Hesselink at the Gibbsville Reformed Church. He worked as a sheet metal worker for over 30 years retiring in 1989. Edward was a member of the Gibbsville Reformed Church. He served on the advisory board for Pine Haven for 6 years. Edward was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #18 and volunteered at the Salvation Army. Edward enjoyed his family, woodworking, and gardening. Some of his favorite activities included playing cards, golfing, fishing, and bowling. Edward is survived by his: wife, Carolyn; two sons, Jim (Nancy) Meyer of Gibbsville and Philip (Julie) Meyer of Hingham; one daughter-in-law, Laurie Meyer of Gibbsville; one foster daughter, Janet (Jon) Holtz of Sheboygan; nine grandchildren, Roger (Sue) Meyer, Chad (Sara) Meyer, Amy (Charles) Clark, Jennifer (Tom) TeStroete, Nathan (Tina) Meyer, Cassondra Meyer, Joseph Meyer, Kayla Holtz, Ashley Holtz; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Margaret Penny, Elaine (Charles) Gorr, Doris Kober; three brothers, Wallace (Mimi) Meyer, Kenneth (Nancy) Meyer, Dennis Meyer; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his: parents; two sons, Edward, Jr. and Dale; two sisters Ruby and Betty; seven brothers, Harry, Walter, Robert, Henry, Elmer, Herbert, and Arnold. A celebration of Edward's life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Hingham Reformed Church with Rev. Luke Schouten of Gibbsville Reformed Church officiating. Interment will be in Gibbsville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. A memorial fund is being established in Edward's name for the Gibbsville Reformed Church and Salvation Army.
