David M. Daane, 79, of Oostburg, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015. David was born on July 16, 1936, in Sheboygan, the son of Peter M. and Marion (Williams) Daane. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1955 and then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-59. On May 10, 1959, he married Clara Jean Todd in Warsaw, North Carolina. Clara Jean passed away on November 17, 1984. On September 27, 1986 he married Marjorie VanStelle in Oostburg. David was co-owner of Daane Hardware in Oostburg with his brother, Peter, where he worked his entire life. David was proud to have been a third-generation owner and having passed the business on to his son, Todd and his family. David was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg. There, he served as a deacon, elder, trustee, and Sunday School teacher. He was active in many community events and organizations; the Oostburg Kiwanis, Oostburg Historical Society, Oostburg Chamber of Commerce, was a founding member of the Oostburg Ambulance and was a 25 year volunteer of the Oostburg Fire Dept, where he also served as Assistant Chief. He was also a member of the National Retail Hardware Association. David enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and traveling. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and cherished the time that he could spend with his family at their Lake Michigan cottage. David is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marjorie; his daughter, Sarah (Richard) Lutze of Newton; his two sons, Todd (Tammy) Daane of Oostburg and Peter John Daane of Chicago; six grandchildren, Tyler (friend Amanda), Lucas (Loraine), Sawyer (Courtney), and Samuel Daane, David Lutze and Matthew (Amber) Lutze; one great granddaughter, Makayla Daane; and one brother, Peter (Ramona) Daane of Oostburg. David was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Loraine Daane; and his first wife, Clara Jean. Funeral services to celebrate David's life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg with Rev. Brian Jacobson officiating. Burial will take place at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, from 3-8 pm, and on Wednesday, at church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in David's name for the First Presbyterian Church and the American Heart Association.
