Christopher Schroeder

Christopher R. Schroeder, 61, of 638 Ohio Ave, Oostburg died unexpectedly on Sunday night, April 17, 2011 following an apparent heart attack. Chris was born on November 30, 1949 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Robert and Bernice (Hintz) Schroeder. He graduated from Homestead High School in Mequon in 1967 and continued his education at UW-Whitewater and UW-Milwaukee where he received his bachelor degree and played collegiate baseball and basketball. He earned his master degree from UW-LaCrosse. Chris was a history and physical education teacher for 37 years, having taught at Thiensville and Hartford for a brief time and then at Random Lake Public Schools from 1979 until his retirement in 2010. On March 25, 1989 he married Lorie Damrow in Saukville. Chris was a member of the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Assoc., was a member and inducted into the Land O' Lakes Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Oostburg Golf League. Chris was an outstanding athlete having a special love for baseball, basketball, golf, football, weight training, and bicycling. He coached hundreds of area youth and students throughout his career. He was a faithful fan to his two sons as they participated in many of their sports. Chris was a history buff and enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his wife, Lorie of Oostburg; two sons, Bob Schroeder and Steve (Becky) Schroeder; both of West Bend; his brother Kurt Schroeder of Port Washington; and his mother-in-law, Cleo Damrow of Sheboygan. A funeral to celebrate Chris's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Greg Whelton officiating. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 3-8 pm, and on Saturday, at church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
